Transport, Communications, and Information Technology Organizes a Workshop on Enhancing Import and Export through Omani Ports

July 24, 2024

On Tuesday, July 23, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, in collaboration with the National Program for Economic Diversification and the Oman Logistics Association, organized the first workshop of the third phase of the Investment Attraction Workshops and Clinics, titled “Enhancing Import and Export through Omani Ports.” The workshop saw the participation of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, the General Directorate of Customs at the Royal Oman Police, and the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones.

The workshop aims to establish a shared vision targeting new global markets, exploring opportunities and addressing local and international challenges faced in import and export operations. It also focuses on streamlining procedures, enhancing governance, and improving the efficiency of the import and export system, as well as overcoming obstacles faced by Omani exports and imports.

The workshop included presentations from relevant entities about their roles in enhancing import and export, discussions on the challenges and gaps related to direct import and export, and exchanges of experiences and best practices in this field. Participants proposed initiatives and solutions, set specific goals for the initiative for the next five years, and discussed policies and regulations related to import and export.

The workshop featured several specialized clinics, including a clinic for government entities to align workshop goals and implementable initiatives, a clinic for operating companies to identify challenges and review proposed initiatives from companies, a joint clinic to filter and select the most feasible initiatives, and finally, a planning clinic to develop detailed plans for the agreed-upon initiatives and monitor their implementation.

The Investment Attraction Workshops and Clinics aim to increase the volume of private investments, enhance the attractiveness of the logistics sector for national talents, and improve Oman’s ranking in the global logistics performance index by 2025.
