Tender Announced for Phases Three and Four of the Sinaw Mahout Duqm Road Upgrade Project

April 09, 2025

The General Secretariat of the Tender Board announced today the launch of the tender for Phase Three and Phase Four of the Sinaw–Mahout–Duqm Road Upgrade Project, located in the Governorates of North Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta. The combined length of the two phases is approximately 132 kilometers.

This project falls within the efforts of the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology to enhance the infrastructure of Oman’s road network. Phases Three and Four represent a continuation of the work completed in the first two phases of the project.

Phase Three of the project, with a total length of approximately 83 kilometers, extends from Al Jouba Roundabout in the Wilayat of Mahout towards the Wilayat of Duqm. It consists of a single carriageway with two lanes—one in each direction—each lane measuring 3.75 meters in width. In addition, the road will include asphalt shoulders of 2.5 meters on each side and gravel shoulders of 2 meters. The scope of work for this phase also includes the design and construction of a roundabout for the village of Khlouf, aimed at improving traffic connectivity for the village and surrounding areas.

Phase Four of the project spans approximately 49 kilometers, stretching from an area near Sarab to the boundaries of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm near Nafun. It will be built to the same technical and engineering specifications as the previous phases, including lane and shoulder dimensions.

The new road has been designed to run parallel to the existing route, allowing for potential future dualization, while maintaining traffic flow on certain sections of the current road to minimize detours during construction. Road safety standards have been incorporated into the design, including appropriate design speeds, improved curve geometry, and the provision of lighting at critical locations and intersections.

This project serves as a key pillar in improving the infrastructure of the road linking North Al Sharqiyah to the Special Economic Zone at Duqm. It is expected to enhance mobility and support economic, commercial, and tourism activities in the regions it serves.
