The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology honored the winners of the third Omani Olympiad in Informatics competition with the participation of 52 male and female students from various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, which It was organized by the Ministry in a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Academy of Programming as the scientific operator of the competition, and with the support of the company OQ and Omifco.

 

The first place was won by the student Osama Atef Antar from Muscat Governorate, and the student Omar bin Ahmed Al Barwani from the Muscat Governorate won second place, while in third place was the student Ahmed bin Talib Al Muqbali from North Al Batinah, and in fourth place was the student Muhammad bin Ahmed Al Hassan from North Al Batinah, who won Student Reem bin Khalaf Al Khayariyah from Al Dakhiliyah Governorate took fifth place, student Ibrahim bin Khalil Al Khanbashi from South Al Batinah took sixth place, student Yousef bin Hamad Al Abri from Al Dakhiliyah Governorate took seventh place, and student Abdul Rahman bin Youssef Al Farsi from North Al Batinah took eighth place. Student Al-Muayyad bin Talal Al-Shuaili from Muscat Governorate came in ninth place, while tenth place was taken by student Mais bin Wahab Al-Amriya from Al-Dakhiliyah Governorate.

 

About the Olympiad The idea of ​​the Olympiad is that general education school students compete in solving a set of life problems that require the design of computer algorithms to be applied as computer programs during the competition sessions using one of the high-end programming languages ​​such as Python, Java, and C++.

 

The Olympic competitions began with the holding of the Omani Beaver Competition as a qualifying competition around the Sultanate in which approximately 8,700 male and female students participated.

 

It is worth noting that the “Omani Olympiad in Informatics” competition, or as it is called the “Programming Olympiad”  is the national version in the Sultanate of the “International Olympiad in Informatics” competition. It is a competition that is spread around the world in more than 100 countries, and the Sultanate will participate in the next International Olympiad in Informatics, which will be held in September 2024 in Alexandria, the Arab Republic of Egypt.
